    Aims and scope

MGMA Connection is a member-benefit publication of MGMA-ACMPE, publishing a mix of peer- and subject matter expert-reviewed original research, review articles, case studies and other data and reports spanning the Body of Knowledge of Medical Practice Management.

MGMA Connection (print ISSN: 15370240; online ISSN: 0899-8949) — which traces its lineage through MGMA Connexion, Medical Group Management Journal, and Proceedings of the National Association of Clinic Managers — builds upon the original mission of the first gathering of medical clinic mangers in 1926. As Alfred Stasel put it: “Competent counsel cannot come from one man. … The universe wants new ways of doing things, and the new things become old overnight. This is the real purpose of this meeting today.”

As a quarterly print and electronic publication, MGMA Connection publishes articles in all areas of medical group practice management, welcoming both theoretical and practical studies that advance the performance of medical group practices and the profession of medical practice executives.

All publication costs are covered by MGMA-ACMPE, so authors are not charged and do not pay article-processing charges, nor is financial remuneration offered to external authors.

    Submission guidelines

    Manuscript submission

    Submission of a manuscript implies:
    • That the work described has not been published before
    • That it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere at time of submission
    • That its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any.

    Author information

Manuscripts should include each author’s name, academic degrees, professional credentials, job title, company/institution, as well as an email address or website URL. Each author should submit a headshot photo to accompany their author information in print and electronically.

    Permissions

Authors wishing to include tables, figures and other passages from published works should note these materials in the submission and status of permission from the copyright holder(s). If permission has not been secured, MGMA may work to secure permission from copyright holder(s) prior to publication. Any material received without proper notice will be assumed to originate from the authors.

    Online submission

Manuscripts should be sent via email to connection@mgma.com.

    Citations

MGMA prefers National Library of Medicine style for footnotes. For references to online materials, provide the entire URL. Please do not use the automatic footnote feature in Microsoft Word.

    Source files

Inclusion of tables, figures and other sources of data to be represented in the manuscript should be included with the manuscript submission in an editable source file (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel formats). Clearly label each chart/graph/table/illustration. Photographs should include caption(s) and photographer credit(s), when applicable.

    Ethics and disclosures

    Statements and declarations

MGMA Connection operates a double-blind peer review in which author names and affiliations are shielded from Editorial Advisory Group members who review manuscripts, and authors are not apprised of which Editorial Advisory Group members have reviewed their work. Only MGMA editorial staff and in-house subject-matter experts are aware of author name(s) and affiliation(s) prior to manuscript approval and subsequent publication.

All suspected issues with authorship/contributorship, conflicts of interest and other complaints are investigated.

    Statements and declarations

Authors should disclose financial or non-financial interests that are directly or indirectly related to the work submitted for publication.
