For MGMA member Scott Graham, it started when his daughter went off to college. “It just seemed like I was stagnant at this point, when it felt like you’ve climbed the mountain,” says the chief executive officer of the Oral Facial Surgery Institute in Fenton, Mo.

When he approached the practice owner about his feelings, the owner told him to just enjoy the practice’s achievement and just “ride the wave.” But Graham knew that wouldn’t be enough for him: “I needed a challenge.”

Graham considered a number of different options for overcoming his complacency, including volunteering, changing jobs, or obtaining ACMPE Fellowship.

He quickly realized, “If you don’t learn, you don’t grow. If you don’t step forward, you’ll always be in the same place.”
