MGMA statement on prior authorization reform language in H.R. 4822
    Anders Gilberg
    Senior Vice President, Government Affairs
    Medical Group Management Association

    β€œ

"MGMA strongly supports the inclusion of provisions to reform the prior authorization process within the Medicare Advantage (MA) program in the Health Care Price Transparency Act of 2023. If enacted, this prior authorization legislation would lessen administrative burden for medical groups by moving the process of obtaining approval into the 21st century. By requiring MA plans to publicly reveal what services are subject to prior authorization, how many are approved, and how long on average they take to approve β€” this legislation will drive plan accountability. MGMA is eager to work with Congress to advance policies that ensure the physician-patient relationship is prioritized over a health plan’s bottom line.”
