What’s on the mind of MGMA members across the country? Based on reactions from attendees of the MGMA 2017 State Leadership Conference Jan. 26-28 in Aurora, Colo., there’s no shortage of key issues.
“Currently, introducing the MACRA changes and trying to get an understanding on insurance reform and insurance changes, and how we participate in a rural environment with insurance implications and Medicaid changes and Medicare changes and just changes, quite frankly,” says Jeffrey Landblom, MSF, MGMA member, clinic administrator, The Eye Clinic of North Dakota, Bismarck, N.D.
Concerns about dealing with regulations and maintaining independence were also hot topics for conference participants.
“Just staying independent, being able to … get our market share, being able to maintain our relevance as an independent group while being surrounded by a couple of hospital systems is probably one of the bigger things that I deal with,” says Shane Melenbacker, MBA, MGMA member, practice administrator, Klasinski Clinic, Stevens Point, Wis.
Many agreed that the resources and networking opportunities offered by MGMA have helped them to face their challenges and find solutions. “It’s really been a cornerstone of professional development for me,” says Karen Massey, MHA, FACMPE, CPMSM, MGMA member, executive director, Northern Nevada Emergency Physicians, legislative liaison, Reno, Nev.
