1. 2024 Legislative Updates - Key Legislative Developments in Nebraska
● LB62: Legislation required the state to provide coverage for all necessary translation and
interpretation services for individuals who received Medicaid. This bill required DHHS to provide
the coverage, and reimbursement for providers, while also taking “all actions necessary” to
maximize federal funding to do so. The effective date was 07/19/2024.
● LB896: Legislation eliminated requirement to collect signed consent statement for telehealth
consultation if verbal consent has already been given. This bill was included in the Health and
Human Services Committee Priority Legislation LB1215, which passed. The effective date was
07/19/2024.
● LB1099: Legislation allowed the Department of Health and Human Services [DHHS] to use
federal funds (through Laws 2022, LB 1014, section 18 and Laws 2023, LB814, section 4) apportioned for the
purpose of funding scholarships for nursing students in the amount of $5,000 per semester or $3,500 per
quarter. Scholarships were previously not allowed for nursing students at Metro Community College (located in
the Omaha area), which used the quarter system. Effective date was 04/01/2024.
