Medical Group Management Association’s most recent MGMA Stat poll asked healthcare leaders if their organizations have a 12-month strategic plan. More than 61% of the respondents stated that they have a 12-month strategic plan in place while 34% did not and 4 percent were unsure.  MGMA Stat asked the same question poll in October 2016 with similar results.

Many respondents who did not have a 12-month strategic plan commented that the reason their organizations did not have a strategic plan was due to the practice owners’ not understanding the value of a strategic plan, uncertainty on how to develop a strategic plan, or time limitations. Others indicated either they are in the process of creating a strategic plan or that their organization had a strategic plan of a different duration such as for three or five years. Finally, some respondents cited that the uncertainty in healthcare makes planning and strategizing for the future difficult.

The poll was conducted on October 31, 2017 with 1,223 total responses. Of this total, 11 indicated the question was not applicable to their situation with a net of 1,212 applicable responses.
