MGMA Harwick Innovation Award
The award is designed to recognize and celebrate the success of an individual who has developed an innovative solution that positively impacts practices, providers and/or patients in their community. Self-nominations are accepted.
Congratulations to our 2021 recipient Shannon Lockrem.
Shannon Lockrem is a Director of Practice Operations for University Healthcare Alliance and is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations for 7 clinical practices in the San Francisco bay area. Her responsibilities encompass all areas of practice management including staffing and staff development, fiscal planning and analysis, marketing and practice promotion, workflow optimization, quality and safety, and patient and physician satisfaction. She acts as a liaison between clinics, providers, and all foundation departments to drive positive outcomes. Shannon is passionate about developing and implementing clinical processes and seeking innovative partnerships and connections to strengthen and extend influence and expertise across our missions of patient care and teaching.
Prior to joining University Healthcare Alliance, Shannon was the Director, Primary Care Services for Northbay Healthcare for over 20 years. At Northbay Healthcare, Shannon led the operations at four primary care centers and specialty care practices, including a center for diabetes and endocrinology, while managing six direct reports and 80+ staff including clerical support staff, medical assistants, health care coordinators, laboratory staff, referral representatives and on call staff.
Shannon has participated in the California Quality Collaborative on Improving Patient Experience. She also participated in the Thomson Reuters Performance Excellence Academy for Project Development. Shannon also participated in Stanford’s Clinical Effectiveness Leadership Team (CELT), to obtain the tools and skills needed to become a healthcare improvement leader, through the completion of a team-based project.
Shannon is a Licensed Vocational Nurse and uses her nursing background to support the development of clinical workflows. Shannon holds a BS in Business Administration.

MGMA Lifetime Achievement Award
The award is designed to recognize and celebrate the success of an individual who has inspired and empowered other leaders through significant contributions to the healthcare industry with particular emphasis on the advancement of medical group administration, delivery and/or education. Self-nominations are accepted.
Congratulations to our 2021 recipient Cristian Lieneck, PhD, FACHE, FAHM, CPHIMS, FACMPE.
Dr. Lieneck has over 10 years of practical experience in the field of healthcare administration with a strong focus in medical group practice management (physician practice administration) - and over a decade of preparing future healthcare leaders in higher ed.
He began working in the healthcare field while in high school as a licensed emergency medical technician (EMT) and later commissioned as a Medical Service Corps officer (MSC officer) in the United States Army. As a Lieutenant, Dr. Lieneck led a garrison medical clinic and a field medical evacuation platoon in the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment (3rd ACR). Upon promotion to the rank of Captain, he served as the Executive Officer and Dental Company Commander for the Fort Carson Dental Activity - consisting of four outpatient dental practices and one hospital-based oral surgery clinic.
Dr. Lieneck's military leadership as a healthcare administrator has been recognized by all of his previous senior combat-arms (armor) and combat service-support (medical/dental) military officers, to include having been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (MSM) upon completion of his ROTC scholarship service obligation.
Dr. Lieneck is a fellow and board certified in medical group practice management by the American College of Medical Practice Executives (ACMPE), the credentialing body of the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) – the premiere professional association for medical group/ambulatory care practice administrators. He is a fellow and board certified in healthcare management by the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), and a fellow in the Academy of Healthcare Management (AHM). He is also a Certified Professional in Health Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS), credentialed through the Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).
Dr. Lieneck continues to participate in professional leadership roles at national, state, and local levels. He is a faculty member with the American College of Healthcare Executives and teaches the Healthcare Finance module for the Board of Governors FACHE exam review course. He has been appointed and continues to serve as the MGMA Forum Representative for the state of Texas. He serves the profession by participating on various committees with other local, state, and national professional organizations. He is an active member of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) and serves as a program reviewer to ensure the quality of healthcare management education.

MGMA Legislative Liaison Award
This award recognizes a medical practice professional serving as a state MGMA legislative liaison volunteer who has provided outstanding leadership in the education and motivation of MGMA members through grassroots and advocacy involvement on legislative and regulatory issues of importance to medical group practices.

Congratulations to our 2021 recipient Ken Chin, CMPE.
Ken Chin a Board Certified Medical Practice Executive through MGMA and has spent the past 12 years of his career creating meaningful success in the field of healthcare administration. Ken is a Practice Administrator at UroPartners, the largest independent urology group in the Midwest. Prior to joining the UroPartners team, he was the Practice Manager and Marketing Director at The Running Institute.
Serving as Legislative Liaison and Committee Chair for the Illinois MGMA, Ken advocates for positive change in healthcare legislation at both the state and national levels. In this role, he reliably monitors and shares important legislative updates with healthcare professionals across the state of Illinois.
Ken is passionate about building successful organizations through the fostering of referral relationships, identifying operational gaps to implement more efficient workflows, effectively developing a positive team culture, and, most importantly, ensuring superb patient care. Additionally, Ken's management style is centered on leading by example. He highly values building authentic, engaging relationships without sacrificing integrity, as well as coaching teams through adversity to empower them as individuals and grounding them within the culture.
As a professionally trained classical musician, Ken played the clarinet and performed at Carnegie Hall six times as a child. He is also a retired four time IRONMAN triathlete and marathon runner with personal bests of 13:00 and 3:59, respectively.
Ken enjoys the city life in Chicago, where he lives with his husband, Anthony, and his two bichons, Schubert and Brahms.

To be eligible for this award, the nominee organization must submit benchmarked metrics showing top performance in the three categories above:
