The Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA) revised the methodology for updating the physician fee schedule (PFS) and created a new pay-for-performance program, the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), as an on-ramp to participation in alternative payment models (APMs).
MGMA Government Affairs staff developed this member-benefit resource to help group practice leaders understand how MIPS payment adjustments are applied, as 2019 is the first payment year under this new program. Through our advocacy and outreach efforts, MGMA worked directly with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to bring you this information.
