About Tom McDougal, D.Sc., MSHA, MBA, FACHE
Dr. Tom McDougal is a serial healthcare entrepreneur, author, speaker, professor and thought leader. McDougal entered the healthcare industry in 1993 and at age 27 accepted his first role as a hospital CEO. Seventeen years later, he had served as CEO of five different hospitals. In 2013, Tom became a healthcare entrepreneur and founded multiple companies including Synct, a Birmingham, Alabama based telemedicine company designed to meet the needs of traditional physician practices so they could compete in a changing landscape.In 2013, Tom was conferred his Doctorate degree from UAB in Health Services Administration. He also holds Master’s degrees in Health Administration and Business Administration from UAB. Prior to graduate school, Tom graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the Brock School of Business at Samford University.
In addition to directing and leading the companies he owns, Tom currently serves as a Professor in the Department of Healthcare Administration at Samford University where he instructs undergraduate, graduate and doctorate students in Healthcare Finance, Economics and Management.
