GOAL #1: Increase communication and cohesiveness with our local chapters

The state of Florida has many geographical challenges. We find that our local chapters, since all are run by volunteers, tend to need some help with managing as well as educational offerings. In 2019 we held 3 teleconferences and one face to face meeting for all local chapter board members to provide an opportunity to share and ask questions. All that participated, felt this was an excellent forum for ideas they can take back and implement in their chapters. Speakers/Topics were shared that other chapters could use. We had at least one local chapter board member from each chapter in attendance at all our meetings.
We also enhanced our professional development opportunities to include local chapter members in our twelve free educational webinars. This provides monthly free education for all our state and local chapter members. In an effort to better reach all members across our state, our board is divided up into regions so ensure our outreach was inclusive of all members. We also work very closely with our local chapters to promote their activities as well as them promoting our statewide educational opportunities. We believe this commitment will indentify future leaders of our state association giving these volunteers an excellent background on the mission of MGMA and their relationship to the state and local chapters.

GOAL #2: Increase overall membership involvement / advancement in ACMPE

The primary goal of our chapter was to communicate and educate the value of the ACMPE membership and advancement in the American College of Medical Practice Executives. As a board we evaluated how we could positively impact the ability of ACMPE nominees in our state to pursue ACMPE certification. We promoted the ACMPE Board Certification Prep Course to our members via email as well as on our website.
Marynell Lubinski, FACMPE is our ACMPE Liaison. This is a board seat on our current board of directors. Marynell gives updates at each of our quarterly board calls on the number of Nominees, Certified and Fellows in our chapter. We also included an ACMPE column in each of our newsletters with updates on test dates, new requirements and even sample test questions. We had an ACMPE Update at our Annual Conference in June. We were proud to have 5 new Fellows from Florida in 2019 as well as many new certified members.

GOAL #3: Work to obtain additional corporate members

The Florida medical practice landscape has changed significanly over the last few years. Many independent practices are being bought by hospitals and health systems. Our board has worked tirelessly to meet the changing needs of our membership. Organizational memberships were created hoping to retain these members and to broaden our scope. In 2018, we added 2 corporate member companies and in 2019 we added 3 more. Obviously we must now create member benefits to fit the needst of these members which will be a goal in 2020 so we can retain those members we have worked hard to establish.

GOAL #4: Continue to work with the Florida Medical Association on issues that affect medical practices in the state of Florida.

Three of our board members, went with Jarrod Fowler, Director of Health Care Policy and Innovation at Florida Medical Association during the Florida Legislative session (April 2nd) to meet key legislators in Tallahassee. We met Senator Gayle Harrell, Chair of the Senate Committee on Health Policy as well as committees members: Senator Dennis Baxley and Senator Manny Diaz. We also were able to meet with Representative Nick Di Ceglie who sits on the House Health & Human Services Committee.
In addition, Jarrod Fowler sits on our Florida Collaborative Committee that meets quarterly and gives updates on healthcare issues. We take our role in the legislative activities of our state very seriously and make every effort to communicate and educate our membership regarding legislative issues. We are fortunate to have a long standing relationship with our state’s Medical Association and each holds representation on our respective boards. We work closely with the Florida Medical Association to educate our members on issues that affect medical practice management and encourage our members to contact their legislators on behalf of their doctors to see these issues brought to light. Drew Voytal with the MGMA Governmental Affairs Department spoke to our members at a General Session during our 2019 Annual Conference on issues affecting our members at the national level.

    Conclusion

Florida MGMA is a dynamic, thriving, and growing professional association committed to supporting medical practice executives in our state. With the many changes to MGMA and its brand in the recent years it is important that we have a renewed cohesive message to our enitre membership. We look forward to 2020 and partnering with MGMA and appreciate their support of our state chapter so we may continue to promote medical practice management throughout our state
