Medical Group Management Association’s most recent MGMA Stat poll asked healthcare professionals if they use secure/encrypted email when sending patient data. A large majority of respondents (88%) stated that they do use secure email, 4% responded they are considering it, while just 6% indicated that they do not use secure email. The remaining 2% of respondents said they were unsure.
Respondents who use secure/encrypted email were then asked whom does the communication occur between when sending patient data. 36% of respondents said communication occurs between internal and external providers, while 16% said between internal providers and 11% said between providers and the patients themselves. Most commonly, however, communication fell into the “other” category, where many respondents indicated that secure email was used for any instance whenever patient data was involved.
The poll was conducted on January 23, 2018 with 1,319 applicable responses out of 1,393 total responses.
