Rapid acquisition and organic growth over a relatively short period of time for a large multispecialty group in a dynamic healthcare environment overwhelmed the onboarding infrastructure of the organization which resulted in an unsatisfactory provider onboarding experience and incomplete or inaccurate information being communicated to new members of the provider team. It became obvious that there was a need to refine and restructure the onboarding process to engage new providers with the larger organization and insure consistent and accurate information was received by those entering the group. As part of an onboarding restructuring effort a subgroup was tasked with creating a method, activity or event with the goal of aligning new provider expectations with the organizational culture while insuring consistent and accurate information delivery. An internet search of publications on related topics produced some helpful thoughts, topics and comments but did not provide a complete model that addressed all the relevant topics and issues. A comprehensive, monthly, half day new provider orientation session was developed and successfully executed that introduces practice processes, thinking, strategies and concepts while creating multiple interpersonal connecting points to thought leaders, subject matter experts and executives. The project is considered successful as the sessions and information presented have been well received by attendees and has met or exceeded goals and objectives of the organization.
